Intel Specialist: 5G

2017 is an important year for global 5G development. The major global countries and operators have clearly put forward the 5G development schedule. US operator Verizon Communications has provided 5G services in 11 cities in the United States. Japan and South Korea plan to build 5G commercial networks in 2018. The ITU will launch the first 5G standard in December. In China, the second phase of the 5G technology research and development test has been completed. The third phase of the test will start in late 2017 and early 2018, follow the 5G unified international standards, and based on commercial hardware platform, we will focus on single station pre-commercial equipment , Networking performance and related interoperability testing, is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2018. China plans to start the construction of 5G network in 2019.

Rob said 5G is strategically important to Intel not only because it is the fifth generation of wireless connectivity but also the first generation of connected compute. In other words, there are so many devices connected to each other that they have computing power, which is an unlimited opportunity for vendors like Intel to provide an end-to-end solution. So Intel made a big push into 5G, redefining the way clouds, networks, access networks and devices interoperate.

The 5G needs to develop new air interfaces and wireless standards. Over the past two years, Intel has done a great deal of work in this area, including a large amount of testing and experimentation. On September 7, Intel released the industry's first trial platform to support 5G NR (the new air interface) - the 3rd generation Intel® 5G Mobile Test Platform (MTP). It is the industry foundation for early 5G device innovation that enables rapid field and interoperability testing of 5G networks and devices. Intel plans to begin interoperability testing with Huawei in the new air interface standard in the fourth quarter of this year. Both parties will jointly verify the new 5G air interface with Sub-6GHz including C-Band (3.5GHz), high-frequency millimeter and mobility The performance of key technologies in the end-pipe synergies. In addition, through the direct connection with Huawei's infrastructure, Intel will also conduct end-to-end docking test on its terminal chip platform in the real mobile and air interface environment. Earlier Intel and millimeter wave technology such as Ericsson and other manufacturers, based on virtual reality and 4k video streaming 5G residential access test. Rob said that the industry has seen the dawn of the upcoming 5G, which is very exciting for Intel and industry players. Recently, Intel announced a series of cooperation with various enterprises. At present, Intel mainly focuses on the interoperability testing of 5G networks with many IT architecture vendors and network operators. At present, the work has progressed very well.
